These earrings were bought by Queen Victoria in April 1850. Upon her death on 22nd January 1901 she left the earrings to the Crown in her will.

Queen Alexandra used both of the earrings as pendants hanging from Queen Victoria’s bow brooches.  They were pinned to the bottom of her skirt for the coronation of her husband Edward VII in 1902.  They were passed to the Queen in 1952 when she came to the throne.
